The Creative Media Industries Institute helped produce an immersive virtual reality experience hosted by NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice for fans during the week leading up to Super Bowl LIII.
Georgia State’s Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) has teamed up with the United Way and Futurus, an Atlanta-based technology company, to create an interactive virtual reality (VR) experience for fans at the NFL’s “Super Bowl Experience Driven by Hyundai.”
Between Jan. 26 – Feb. 3, fans who visit the “Call the Play” VR attraction at the Georgia World Congress Center will be transported into the middle of Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Hosted by NFL legend Jerry Rice, the experience also features NFL linebackers Lorenzo Alexander and Demario Davis.
Using CMII’s ultramodern 4D volumetric capture studio, technology and production talent, “Call the Play” connects fans with NFL players and immerses players in scenarios where they have to make difficult choices about challenging social situations. The experience borrows curriculum from the Character Playbook, an interactive digital learning program created by United Way, the NFL and EverFi that educates students about cultivating healthy relationships.
“CMII always is looking at creating fun VR experiences,” said Brennen Dicker, executive director of CMII. “We are looking forward to more collaborations in 2019 that not only help organizations like United Way but also make more people aware of all of the technology and outstanding students we have at Georgia State.”
“We are always looking at exciting and innovative ways to engage our caring community,” said Milton J. Little Jr., United Way of Greater Atlanta president and chief executive officer.
Find “Call the Play” at Booth 55 of the Super Bowl Experience at the Georgia World Congress Center between Jan. 26 – Feb. 3. Participants also have the chance to purchase a sweepstakes ticket to win two Super Bowl tickets. To learn more, visit unitedwayatlanta.org.
