Why did you choose the Georgia State School of Public Health?
I chose the Georgia State School of Public Health because of how versatile the program is and because of all the opportunities it offers for gaining experience in the field.
Which MPH concentration did you choose, and why?
I chose Health Promotion and Behavior because of its emphasis on prevention and its multidisciplinary approach. This concentration also has led me to pursue a Graduate Certificate in Global Health, where I can develop skills in policy and cross-cultural communication.
What has been your favorite class in the SPH so far, and why?
My favorite class has been “Global Health” because I gained new perspectives about health inequities and learned about the impacts of globalization.
What advice would you give undergraduate students considering pursing an MPH at Georgia State?
I would encourage students to choose a concentration which aligns most with their goals, take advantage of the resources offered at Georgia State and make connections with faculty.
Tell us about your extracurricular involvement.
I have had the opportunity to be a Graduate Research Assistant for Dr. Self-Brown for Smoke-Free SafeCare. We are currently collecting data on household smoking behaviors, safety knowledge and administering surveys. I have also been able to work with Drs. Self-Brown and Ballard on data collection for the Center on Health and Homelessness. This project focuses on families living in extended stay hotels in DeKalb County, and some preliminary data was recently released.
What’s your favorite place on campus, and why?
One of my favorite places on campus is the library because it is a quite place to work and meet with my peers.
What’s your career aspiration?
I hope to work in public health to address disparities in disadvantaged communities as well as global health inequities.
