Natashia Lee, Lead Social Worker for Project Healthy Grandparents, says that seeing grandparents gain confidence, overcome obstacles and create stability for their family is incredibly rewarding.
When did you join the School of Public Health, and what do you enjoy about working here?
While Project Healthy Grandparents officially joined the School of Public Health in August of 2025, I have proudly been a part of PHG since March of 2018. One of the things I enjoy most about working here is being surrounded by colleagues and programs that are equally passionate about strengthening our communities.
What’s a typical workday for you like?
As the Lead Social Worker for Project Healthy Grandparents, no two days are ever the same. My responsibilities may include conducting home visits, supervising social work interns, delivering essential resources to families, facilitating support group meetings or participating in community outreach activities. Every day brings new opportunities for me to learn, grow and overcome challenges.
What about your work are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of the ability to assist grandparents in reaching the goals that they have set for themselves and the grandchildren that they are caring for. Seeing grandparents gain confidence, overcome obstacles and create stability for their family is incredibly rewarding. Being a part of that journey makes this work so much more meaningful.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family. And although I’m a little embarrassed to admit it, I’m a fan of a little trash TV in the form of 90 Day Fiancé and Love After Lockup. After a busy day, it’s nice to unwind with something entertaining that doesn’t require much thinking or problem-solving. It also gives me a greater appreciation for the “normal” moments in my life!
