Name: Aryan Sharma
Hometown: Lawrenceville, Georgia
Expected date of graduation: May 2027
Which concentration did you choose, and why?
I chose Population Health Sciences as my concentration. I chose this concentration since I have an interest in how various sectors of public health impact our population.
Why did you choose to major in public health?
I chose to major in public health because of my interest in medicine. Medicine has a strong emphasis set on patients as individuals but does not shine as strong of a light on populations at a larger scale. My reason for wanting to improve the disconnect between individual and population health is to better address how diseases are affecting populations and work toward treating populations as a whole as well.
What has been your favorite public health class at Georgia State, and why?
My favorite class has been “Intro to Public Health Programming and Implementation” with Dr.Armstrong-Mensah. Taking this class with Dr. Armstrong-Mensah helped me strengthen my public health critical thinking skills and the process it takes to implement a program or project.
Tell us about your campus involvement?
I am a member of GSU’s Pre-Medical Mentorship and Clinical Program, American Red Cross,Undergraduate Public Health Club and a MeTa Series committee member. I’m also a tutor for Organic Chemistry I and II in the STEM center at Georgia State.
Where is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the silent floor of the law library. I value my independent study time, and it gives me the ability to do that.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
A major piece of advice for incoming students is to participate in class and take initiative for opportunities to better your education.
What’s your career aspiration?
My career aspiration is to be a family medicine physician. Primary care offices are the starting points to better patient health outcomes. Having a strong foundation in public health will help me better serve patients at an individual and population level to increase the number of positive health outcomes among communities.
