Decatur Campus Librarian Serves as Committee Chair for ALA

Jennie Law, learning and engagement librarian on the Decatur Campus, was the Outstanding Comics Award for Children’s chair for the American Library Association (ALA) award committee this year. The Outstanding Comics Award from ALA’s Graphic Novels & Comics Round Table was a new award for 2026 and was given to exceptional graphic novels that appeal to adults, teens and children in the categories of fiction, nonfiction and series with an aim to increase awareness about the graphic novels medium.
“I am very proud of the committee’s hard work and our selections. The opportunity to uplift excellent comics for children with this inaugural award is an honor,” said Law. “Our winners and honorees represent the wide range of storytelling that is possible in comics. Each title takes readers on a unique journey through time and space, real and imagined with its distinct art, writing and use of the comics form. However, at the center of each of these incredible books is the importance of community whether it be a circle of storytellers around a fire, close-knit friends, a coven, a family, an ocean or pond full of new pals or a superhero team. Our committee hopes that young readers find a sense of belonging in these books as they see themselves and are given entry into worlds beyond their own.”

Perimeter Professor Honored During Georgia House of Representatives Session
Earlier this semester, Dr. Dana Wiggins led a group of Dunwoody students on a field trip to the State Capitol on Georgia State University Day (February 19) to take a tour and learn about current legislation. Wiggins’ students were from her U.S. History and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies classes. They were joined by members of Feminati and the History and Political Science Club led by Dr. Dennise Turner. The students watched House representatives gavel in, they got to speak with a few lobbyists and they walked the Capitol grounds. They also met representatives Karen Upton and Shea Roberts.
A surprise occurred when Rep. Shea Roberts, House District 52, honored Dr. Wiggins and welcomed her students during an announcement on the House floor.
