Why did you choose the Georgia State School of Public Health?
I chose Georgia State School of Public Health because it is centrally located in the middle of major national health agencies and institutions like the CDC, Georgia Department of Health and others. I love that Georgia State is located downtown with lots of fun and lively activities. Also, I did my masters in anthropology at Georgia State, so I already knew that faculty at Georgia State are highly supportive of students’ success and careers.
Which MPH concentration did you choose, and why?
I chose Health Management and Policy because of my interest in making meaningful contributions to the health of populations. I would like to make an impact for populations living with serious mental illnesses to prevent infections and homelessness. Additionally, I would like to apply public health lenses to clinical medicine in the areas of psychiatry, family medicine and internal medicine.
What has been your favorite class in the SPH so far, and why?
My favorite classes have been “Health Economics” with Dr. Huang and “Maternal and Child Health Policy” with Dr. Baggett. I enjoyed the courses because they were designed to help me learn and apply the material to real-world experiences. Drs. Huang and Baggett were kind, supportive and encouraging.
What advice would you give undergraduate students considering pursuing an MPH at Georgia State?
I would advise them that at times it may get challenging, but it’s paramount to stay focused on the program to complete it while taking advantage of the numerous benefits available at and around Georgia State.
