ATLANTA—The Georgia State University School of Public Health continues to be recognized for its combination of excellence, affordability and impact in the latest U.S. News & World Report ranking for Best Public Health Schools.
Among public institutions, the Georgia State School of Public Health is ranked in the top 30 nationwide. It recently launched several new online degree and certificate programs that expand opportunities for students to earn degrees that improve the health of communities.
“Our school leverages its location in the heart of Atlanta to provide students with extraordinary hands-on learning opportunities,” said Dean Rodney Lyn. “The expertise of our faculty combined with the strength of our relationships with nearby health care organizations, agencies, non-profits and private sector partners creates a learning environment in which students can play an active role in shaping healthier communities and seamlessly transition from college to career.”
Expanding Learning Opportunities
The school recently made all six of its Master of Public Health concentrations—Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Environmental Epidemiology, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, and Health Promotion and Behavior—available as completely online options. It also has launched new graduate certificate programs in Applied Biostatistics and Global Health that can be earned as standalone certificates or embedded into other graduate coursework at GSU.
Tuition for the School of Public Health’s online MPH concentrations and certificate programs is now residency neutral, meaning that all students pay the same tuition, regardless of their geographic location.
Increasing Student Support
The school also has increased its support for students through new programming and resources offered by its Office of Applied Practice Experiences and Career Services. The support of donors has enabled the creation of a Student Assistance Fund that provides temporary, emergency support to help students facing unexpected hardships. In addition, a recently created Student Research Travel Fund provides support for students presenting research findings at academic and professional conferences.
Strengthening Partnerships in Research, Community Engagement
Georgia State’s status as a research university creates opportunities for students to work alongside faculty on projects and in centers that focus on areas such as child maltreatment prevention, the intersection of health and homeless and disabilities.
Events such as the Kreuter Katz Lecture and Public Health Research Symposium, Grand Rounds Lecture Series and Meet and Talk networking events create opportunities for students, faculty and community partners to share knowledge and build connections that change lives for the better.
