Why did you choose the Georgia State School of Public Health?
I chose the School of Public Health because of the program’s focus on prevention rather than treating problems, allowing me to make a broader impact on community health.
Which MPH concentration did you choose, and why?
I chose Environmental Health because I want to understand how our environment impacts health and find ways to improve conditions for underserved communities. I am also pursuing a certificate in Maternal and Child Health to deepen my focus on improving outcomes for women and children.
What has been your favorite class in the SPH so far, and why?
My favorite class has been “Environmental Health” because I learned about different areas of the field and realized my passion lies in environmental justice.
What advice would you give undergraduate students considering pursing an MPH at Georgia State?
Follow your passion and choose a concentration that truly aligns with your interests. It makes your MPH journey more meaningful.
Tell us about your campus involvement?
I have been involved as a graduate research assistant with Drs. Self-Brown and Ballard in the Center on Health and Homelessness. Currently, we are collecting data on families living in extended stay motels within Dekalb county to get them the resources they need. I’ve also participated in public health events and initiatives, gaining hands-on experience in laboratory work and environmental health projects.
What’s your favorite place on campus, and why?
My favorite place on campus is the library because it is a quiet space where I can focus, study and reflect on my projects while being surrounded by other students doing the same.
What’s your career aspiration?
I aspire to work in public health, addressing environmental health disparities among underserved communities, women and children by designing and implementing community-based research and interventions to improve health outcomes.
