ATLANTA—The Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions has launched a new degree program, the Master of Science in Health Sciences with a concentration in Healthcare Leadership and Informatics. The program, for professionals working in healthcare or IT, offers advanced courses in health informatics combined with courses on influencing team behavior and managing organizational culture.
The degree program “stacks” two graduate-level certificates, the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Leadership and the Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics, together to form the degree program. The master’s degree is awarded after students complete the two certificates for a total of 36 credit hours. Now students can easily combine both areas of study in one master’s degree program to advance their career.
The program gives working professionals the latest knowledge and skills to work in one of the fastest growing career fields, health informatics, with courses on database systems, health data analytics and health information security. Students round out their studies with leadership courses, such as healthcare culture and communications and strategic leadership in healthcare settings.
This program is the Lewis College’s latest effort to help meet the demand of the healthcare workforce by leveraging the college’s resources and faculty expertise.
“We want to graduate leaders in every facet of healthcare,” said Cedric Truss, chair of Georgia State’s Department of Health Sciences and a fellow of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. “This new degree program allows students to advance their careers in healthcare with a deep dive into technology and analytic modeling, along with gaining a strong foundation in the soft skills needed to succeed in today’s healthcare landscape, such as leading a team, how to develop strategic decisions and understanding the cultural dynamics of a workplace.”
This program is open for applications for classes beginning spring 2026.
This degree program is offered completely online with on-demand, work-at-your-own-pace classes. It also is part of Georgia State’s new, residency neutral tuition offering. Tuition for this program is $450 per credit hour, regardless of where the student lives—in-state, out-of-state or out-of-country. (Georgia State also charges a $660 online learning fee per semester, if the student is enrolled in more than six credit hours a semester.)
