Georgia State University’s School of Film, Media & Theatre proudly presents the FMT Awards honoring our faculty and staff for their outstanding contributions to the School of Film, Media & Theatre in 2024-25.
Congratulations to the following awardees:
- Faculty of the Year: Assistant Professor Alessandra Bautze
- Graduate Student (Studies) of the Year: Caleb Ward

- Undergraduate Student (Theatre) of the Year: Bryson Falconer
Each year the faculty of the School of Film, Media & Theatre reviews the efforts of our students and faculty and selects our awardees. Here is a look at our honorees and their well-deserved recognition!
Faculty of the Year: Assistant Professor Alessandra Bautze
Bautze contributed greatly to the School of Film, Media & Theatre in 2024. In addition to chairing a successful search for our screenwriting lecturer, she collaborated with her FMT colleagues on the short film Baying in the Night. Bautze completed solo authored creative work including a feature length drama and a short screenplay with both receiving accolades at multiple screenwriting festivals and contests. She is also a fixture at School and University activities supporting the efforts of her colleagues and students.
Graduate Student (Studies) of the Year: Caleb Ward
Caleb completed coursework this year, presented at SCMS (Society for Cinema and Media Studies) and distinguished himself in the seminar room and as an instructor for the school. The faculty describes him as "thoughtful," "hard working" and excellent at taking "feedback." His students consistently rate his teaching at 4.7/5 or above and describe his classroom as "friendly," "understanding" "open-minded," and providing a "great environment" for learning.
Graduate Student (Production) of the Year: Carla Serrano Crespo
Carla completed coursework this year and excelled in the crucial role as the lead of the equipment checkout. Her work was described by the faculty as "fantastic" and "excellent." They note that her work in the cage demonstrates her commitment to the program and speaks of her terrific work ethic.
Undergraduate Student (Film and Media) of the Year: Alondra Morales
Alondra earned 7 "Grade As" in 2024 across classes as diverse as our foundational introductory courses, Television Analysis, Adapting Literature to Film and Media Theory. Their professors describe them as "one of the most engaged and thoughtful students" in their classes.
Undergraduate Student (Theatre) of the Year: Bryson Falconer
Bryson earned 7 "Grade As" in 2024 across his classes including Directing, Production Seminar, Theatre History and Advanced Acting. His professors describe him as an "excellent student" that always "works hard" and is engaged in class.
