ATLANTA, Ga. — Innovation is alive and well at Perimeter College. Three Perimeter faculty members were recently honored as part of Georgia State’s inaugural National Inventors’ Day event, which celebrated groundbreaking work across disciplines.
Paulos Yohannes, Ph.D., chemistry professor and associate dean for STEM/research at Perimeter College, was honored for his contributions to the identification and characterization of new potential anticancer compounds from medicinal plants native to Ethiopia.
Michelle Kassorla, Ph.D., and Eugenia Novokshanova, Ph.D., both associate professors of English at Perimeter, were honored for their creation of an innovative ENGL 1102 course, “AI-Informed Pedagogy of Teaching Freshman Composition.” Starting in June 2024, they worked with Georgia State's Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization to disclose their work and explore potential licensing for this innovative course, highlighting its unique contribution to the field of composition pedagogy. Kassorla and Novokshanova were also invited to participate in the Georgia State University Published Author’s Reception this spring located at the library on the Atlanta Campus for their book, Serious Play: A Fun Guide to Including AI in your Writing Classroom. This guide resulted from their extensive experience teaching with AI since 2023. It demonstrates how to leverage GenAI to improve student outcomes while upholding academic integrity.
Yohannes, Kassorla and Novokshanova were among the 27 university faculty members recognized at Georgia States’ National Inventors’ Day event for their innovative accomplishments. Research is highly regarded at Georgia State as a vehicle for life-changing impact.
Congratulations to these creative innovators!
