ATLANTA — A new travel fund is expanding opportunities for Georgia State University School of Public Health students to share their research findings at national conferences.
Through the Student Research Travel Fund, undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Public Health are eligible to receive up to $500 to support travel to present their research findings at academic and professional conferences. Up to 10 awards will be given each fiscal year.
“Georgia State’s status as an R1 research university gives School of Public Health students extraordinary opportunities to work alongside faculty on research that promotes the health and well-being of communities,” said Dean Rodney Lyn. “With this new travel grant program, more of our students will be able to share their expertise and build connections with potential collaborators and employers.”
The new grant program is part of a concerted effort to give School of Public Health students hands-on learning opportunities that complement classroom instruction to promote academic and career success.
Public Health Research Day creates a venue for sharing research among students, faculty, alumni and other public health leaders. This year’s Research Day will be held April 17 in conjunction with the Kreuter Katz Lecture. It will include a panel discussion, lightning talks, roundtable discussions with alumni and a student poster session.
Student organizations within the School of Public Health that foster research opportunities include the Undergraduate Public Health Club and the Research and Publication Club. In addition, study abroad programs allow students to examine first-hand public health issues in countries such as Brazil, Ghana, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
