ATLANTA—The Department of Health Sciences is celebrating its third anniversary with the relaunch of its website, lewis.gsu.edu/health-sciences.
The new homepage for the department features its academic programs, career information and faculty and student insights.
The department has its origins in its Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Health Informatics degree, which was established in 2013. Its first class graduated in 2015 with 44 students. Today the department offers three bachelor’s degrees, one master’s degree, two graduate certificates and one doctorate degree and currently has more than 370 students in its programs.
The department is buoyed by its faculty with academic and industry credentials. Its health informatics faculty have worked at large healthcare systems and technology companies, enabling them to bring their real-world experience into the classroom. The dental hygiene program is led by a dental hygienist with many years of experience in practice and higher ed. The health sciences doctoral degree program is headed by a longtime physical therapist with an extensive research program.
The department also has launched a new LinkedIn page, linkedin.com/company/gsu-health-sciences, to keep prospective and current students and alumni up to date on events and academic programs.
“We decided that we would relaunch our website this year to better showcase our programs and our fabulous faculty and alumni,” said Cedric Truss, chair of the department. “Our department has made tremendous advances in student enrollment and course offerings. We’ve built an alumni network that stays engaged with our students. Most importantly, we are continuing to build a talent pool of workforce-ready graduates hungry to work in the growing field of healthcare."
