COVINGTON, Ga.—Beverly Wright, Ph.D., and vice president of data science and artificial intelligence (AI) for Wavicle Solutions, will keynote the annual Daffodil Festival & Symposium at Georgia State University’s Newton Campus on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 11:30 a.m.
Wright, a Georgia State alumna, will give a talk on "Daffodils, Academics and Artificial Intelligence: What Would Our Ancestors Think?”.
Anita Canada, festival chair and instructor of speech communication at Georgia State’s Perimeter College, said that AI is a highly relevant topic—especially for those in higher education.
“AI definitely has the potential to and the effect of enhancing learning,” she said. “It also helps to prepare students for today’s workforce.”
Canada cited additional benefits of AI in education, such as the ability to help with research and the development of class curriculums, along with providing faculty with immediate feedback on student learning.
Each year, Perimeter College at Georgia State celebrates the Daffodil Festival & Symposium in honor of the daffodils believed to have been planted by enslaved people when the Newton Campus property was a plantation. Festival organizers note over the years, the flowers have continued to multiply and bloom, symbolizing the growth and resilience of the community and campus.
The day-long event will feature panel discussions and workshops, with opportunities for attendees to interact with Wright and other AI industry experts. The event is free and open to the public. Click here for a full schedule of activities.
Georgia State’s Newton Campus is located at 239 Cedar Lane in Covington.
