Senior HR Coordinator Nicole Woolfolk says she enjoys the collaborative and supportive work environment in the School of Public Health and the opportunity to work directly with faculty and staff to provide tailored HR solutions that meet their specific needs.
When did you join the School of Public Health and what do you enjoy about working here?
I joined the School of Public Health in May 2023. I really enjoy the collaborative and supportive work environment. It's great to be part of a team that is passionate about public health and committed to making a difference. I also appreciate the opportunity to work directly with faculty and staff to provide tailored HR solutions that meet their specific needs.
What’s a typical workday for you like?
No two days are ever truly the same, but I like to start my day by preparing mentally and physically. The night before, I typically create a to-do list, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and importance. This helps me stay organized and focused, even when unexpected challenges arise.
When I arrive at the office, I take about 10 minutes to decompress, whether it’s a quick meditation, a cup of coffee or simply reviewing my to-do list. This short break allows me to transition from my personal life to my professional one and approach the day with a clear mind.
Throughout the day, I balance a variety of tasks, from advising faculty and staff on HR policies and procedures to overseeing onboarding of new employees. I also collaborate with colleagues in central HR to ensure consistency and compliance. While my day-to-day activities can vary, I always strive to provide exceptional HR support to the School of Public Health community.
What about your work are you most proud of?
I'm most proud of the growth I've experienced in my role. Working closely with my manager, who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in HR, has allowed me to develop my skills and knowledge in a variety of areas. I've been particularly challenged and rewarded by serving in a Human Resource Officer (HRO) role during a period of transition. This experience allowed me to step up, take on additional responsibilities and demonstrate my ability to handle a high workload.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
When I'm not at work I enjoy a variety of hobbies. I love spending time in the kitchen, experimenting with new recipes and trying out different cuisines. I also prioritize daily workouts to stay active and healthy. On sunny days, I like to get outside and enjoy nature, whether it’s going for a walk on the Chattahoochee River or renting a bike at Silver Comet. I also have a passion for vintage and antique shopping. Exploring local shops and flea markets is a great way to find unique treasures. I’m also a big fan of live music and art. I love attending small, intimate concerts and visiting art exhibits, and I’m often willing to travel to see a particular show or exhibition.
