Raina Mitchell, Executive Assistant to the Dean, says that she is proud to support the efforts of School of Public Health faculty and staff in creating advocates for public health.
When did you join the School of Public Health, and what do you enjoy about working here?
I joined SPH in June 2023 and it has been nothing but joyful to learn and work in such a supportive environment. I am blown away by this highly dedicated team and I love being surrounded by people that are passionate about the prevention of disease in our world!
What’s a typical workday for you like?
My workday begins with connecting with my peers; it makes me happy knowing that someone will stop by my office to chat. After conversations are had and emails/schedules are checked, I pop into the Dean’s office for a chat about current events and my public health curiosities. Working closely with the Dean is a privilege; because of his level of expertise, I feel like my lifelong learner spirit is nurtured. A lunchtime campus walk with a colleague leaves me refreshed and energized in addition to my office music, juggling breaks and stretch sessions throughout the day.
What about your work are you most proud of?
I would like to spin this question a bit to address how proud I am of myself. Proud of my resilience and adaptability into academia and the overall upward direction of my career. I am proud to support the efforts of the SPH faculty and staff in creating advocates for public health.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
In addition to taking dance classes, once a week I teach an evening dance class at the university’s recreation center. My passion for dance prompts me to seek an array of physical activities, from roller/ice skating to bicycling. You can also find me watching scary movies at the theatre or studying for classes I get to take through the Tuition Assistance Program.
