Name: Lizzy Lynch
Hometown: Fayetteville, Georgia
Undergraduate degree and institution: B.S. in Public Health, Georgia College and State University
Why did you choose the Georgia State School of Public Health?
I chose Georgia State because of the endless opportunities. GSU is connected to multiple non-profit organizations, healthcare facilities and government agencies, which are great ways to get involved or gain experience. I chose the School of Public Health because I wanted to further my education in the field and establish connections with people from all over the world.
Which MPH concentration did you choose, and why?
My MPH concentration is Health Management and Policy. I chose this MPH concentration because I am fascinated with how health economics, health finance and health policy influence health outcomes. I have traveled to more than 10 different countries and have been exposed to diverse healthcare systems. It was interesting to see the differences in health prevention and treatment, and how these systems influence the health outcomes of each country’s population.
What advice would you give undergraduate students considering pursuing an MPH at Georgia State?
Seize every opportunity you can! The MPH program at GSU offers many graduate research assistantships and teaching assistantships that can help you gain experience and skills while pursuing your education. This is a great way to network with professors and learn about future job opportunities.
Tell us about your campus involvement?
During my MPH program, I worked as a graduate research assistant for the Center for Leadership in Disability in the School of Public Health. I currently work as a graduate teaching assistant for “Health Promotion and Behavior” courses. Outside of my campus jobs, I am interning at GSU’s Inclusive Digital Expression and Literacy (IDEAL) Program, which is an inclusive post-secondary program for students with mild intellectual disabilities.
Where is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the porch swings area between the Urban Life Building and the Student Center. This place has been a great spot for me to relax, get fresh air and prepare for class.
What’s your career aspiration?
I aspire to work in a leadership position within a healthcare technology firm. I feel like innovation is key to improving overall health and I am noticing a big push for it within heath tech firms. So, I am trying to get my foot through the door by starting a job at a health technology company this summer.
