ATLANTA—Dr. Eddie S. Glaude Jr. will deliver the keynote speech at the eighth annual Honors College Founders Lecture. Glaude is the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor and Chair of the Department of African American Studies at Princeton University.
Glaude’s speech shares a title with his most recent book “Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own” and will take place in the Centennial Hall Auditorium on Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
The book’s title is a reference to a passage in Baldwin’s final novel: “Not everything is lost. Responsibility cannot be lost, it can only be abdicated. If one refused abdication, one begins again.”
Glaude’s work focuses on race, American culture and the difficulties we face as a democracy. He has appeared on MSNBC and Meet the Press, and he’s been a columnist for TIME Magazine.
This year’s Founders Lecture will honor Dr. Larry Berman, Founding Dean of the Honors College, and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the college.
The lecture is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow the lecture.
