ATLANTA—Two Georgia State University students have been selected as fellowship recipients in the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.
The university set a record this year with 12 semifinalists for the prestigious fellowship, four of whom have been selected as alternates.
The Fulbright Student Fellowship provides students with the opportunity to live and work abroad. The 12 Georgia State semifinalists include five graduate and seven undergraduate students.
To be competitive for the fellowship, candidates must have an excellent academic background, demonstrate leadership in their respective fields and be willing to serve as ambassadors during this cultural exchange. Georgia State’s 2020-21 recipients are:

“Our students have much to offer the world, and we are so thrilled to see Georgia State’s continued success with the Fulbright,” said Katrina Helz, graduate fellowships adviser. “I encourage any student who is thinking about applying to reach out sooner rather than later.”
The Fulbright Program is designed to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and people of other countries. The program offers teaching, research or combination study and research awards and is supported by the United States, other participating governments and host institutions, corporations and foundations. It operates in more than 140 countries.
The Fulbright scholars receive roundtrip transportation to their host country, funding to cover room, board and incidental costs based on the cost of living in that country and additional benefits determined by the country.
"The Fulbright U.S. Student Program competition gets tougher each year, and our students and alumni rise to the occasion each time,” said Jacob English, director of the Honors College’s Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships. “Our Fulbright outcomes are a demonstration of our students' academic merit, leadership and community involvement, and campus support that they receive.”
