When promoting new films and reaching new audiences, the faculty, students, and alumni of the School of Film, Media & Theatre actively submit their films to festivals nationwide and abroad. In Atlanta's thriving film industry, M.F.A. film candidate Adriana "Didi" Paulini's film "Transcendence" makes its world premiere as an official selection at the Out On Film Festival on Sunday, October 6 at 1 p.m. at Out Front Theatre.
Set in Atlanta, "Transcendence" introduces viewers to seven people who courageously share their stories of embracing their true selves as transgender individuals. As the film unfolds, audiences are drawn into the personal narratives of these individuals, finding common ground and shared emotions. "Transcendence" celebrates diversity, acceptance, and the universal quest for authenticity. Director Statement for Transcendence
As the director and producer of "Transcendence," my inspiration for this project originates from my journey and experiences. I grew up in Brazil, a predominantly Catholic country, and came out as a member of the lesbian community at nearly 30 years old. Moving to the USA with my girlfriend, who later became my wife, and having our wedding officiated by Andi, a trans pastor, was a transformative experience for us. Andi's story, along with the inclusive nature of our ceremony, motivated me to create a film that showcases the beauty and acceptance of transgender individuals. My goal is to inspire others in similar situations to embrace their true selves and to highlight the positivity and resilience of the transgender community.
“The School of Film, Media & Theatre is proud to be a home for talented filmmakers like Didi who are honing their filmmaking talents, receiving recognition from the community, and using their skills to tell compelling stories,” said school director Ethan Tussey.
At GSU, Paulini is pursuing her M.F.A. in Digital Filmmaking, further advancing her skills as a director, producer, and screenwriter. Throughout her career, Paulini worked with a diverse range of companies, contributing to the production of compelling content.
The Out On Film Festival celebrates its 37th anniversary and has become one of the major LGBTQIA film festivals around. In 2024, the festival was named one of the top 10 film festivals by editors and readers of USA Today and 10Best.
