The College of the Arts is pleased to announce that Sekeia Harris, Director of Academic Assistance, is the recipient of the 2019 Outstanding Staff Award for the College of the Arts. The inaugural award recognizes Ms. Harris for her outstanding achievements that reflect a strong commitment to the College of the Arts mission and values, excellence in area of service, as well as creative and innovative approaches.
Ms. Harris is credited for establishing the college’s Office of Academic Assistance (OAA) and for implementing procedural and programmatic efficiencies that result in positive experiences for students, faculty and staff. She significantly elevated the advisement flow among the college’s three schools – School of Film, Media & Theatre, School of Music and the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design – along with the central University Advisement Center. Ms. Harris goes above and beyond her leadership role, providing guidance as an avid student advocate.
Ms. Harris has been with Georgia State University for nearly 17 years and has held various administrative specialist and academic assistant positions throughout her career. Since 2007, Ms. Harris served as an Administrative Specialist-Curriculum in the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office prior to joining the new College of the Arts in 2016.
