Dear Perimeter Faculty and Staff:
Our spring 2026 semester is solidly underway with lots of exciting events and activities slated for the months ahead. Next week, we kickoff the Mario A.J. Bennekin Black History Symposium with a keynote address from Maurice J. Hobson, Ph.D., who’s regarded as a foremost expert on Atlanta and the American South after World War II. Hobson is also chair of the Africana Studies Department at Georgia State.
The week-long event which also will feature entertainment from the Perimeter College Chorale and Jazz Lab Band, as well as student presenters and an anticipated talk from Dr. Dennis Turner, Jr., a notable Atlanta surgeon who was the first African American to complete a residency at Emory Hospital. Dr. Turner is the father of Perimeter’s own assistant professor of history Dennise Turner, Ph.D.
Sessions for the Bennekin Black History Symposium are scheduled for Feb. 16-19, with activities taking place on each Perimeter Campus. Please visit the symposium webpage for specifics and to make plans to participate.
The college’s Spring Semester Business Meeting on Friday, Feb. 20 from 11 a.m.-noon. The event will be held in a hybrid format, giving you the flexibility to attend in-person on Dunwoody Campus (NC-1100) or virtually. Watch your email for further details.
I’m pleased to share that this coming Friday, I’ll offer opening remarks at Perimeter’s 39th Annual Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science Conference on Clarkston Campus. In recent years, this regional conference for faculty teaching math, engineering and computer science in the first two years of college or high school, has grown to include participants from beyond Georgia and as an opportunity for our students to showcase their research.
In addition to these worthwhile events, here are additional calendar dates to note as we move through a successful semester:
- Faculty Awards Ceremony and Faculty Development Day - March 6, Clarkston Campus
- Daffodil Festival & Symposium - March 9-10, Newton Campus
- Spring Break - March 16-22
- AI Conference - March 27, Clarkston Campus
- STAR Awards - April 1, Clarkston Campus
- Commencement - May 7, GSU Convocation Center
I am incredibly proud of the work going on at Perimeter. Each day, you add value to the student experience by providing exceptional instruction in and outside the classroom. Thank you for all that you do to expand our mission and move us forward as a college.
Cheers,
Barbara J. Johnson, Ph.D.
