This year’s event, entitled Muddied Waters, will be presented Monday, Oct. 27, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Muddied Waters will explore the critical issue of access to clean water through the lens of human rights. The evening will feature a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Lelani Mannetti, an assistant professor of urban environmental sustainability at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and a conservation ecologist.
The panel includes:
- Dr. Mona Hanna, director of Rx Kids, a pediatrician, scientist, activist and author known for her role in uncovering the Flint, Mich., water crisis and leading recovery efforts.
- John Dwyer, president and CEO of KEMRON Environmental Services.
- Monica Iyer, J.D., an assistant professor of law and expert in climate change, the environment, human rights and international law.
- Rachel Scarlett, an assistant professor of geosciences, an environmental justice scholar and an expert in urban water systems and environmental impacts of urban development.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a moderated discussion followed by an interactive audience Q&A session. Following the conversation, there will be a reception and book-signing.
The Honors College encourages all members of the GSU community and external guests to attend and participate in this important conversation. NAHR events are designed to challenge conventional thinking and inspire action by examining pressing global issues through a human rights framework.
