Papers coauthored by risk and insurance scholars Richard Phillips, dean of Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business, and Glenn Harrison, director of the Center for the Economic Analysis of Risk, were recently recognized for their sustained impact by two of the discipline’s premier journals.

Richard Phillips
Phillips and his coauthors—former colleague and Regents’ Professor Emeritus Martin Grace, alumnus Tyler Leverty (Ph.D. ’05), and Prakash Shimpi—received the 2025 Robert I. Mehr Award for their 2015 paper, The Value of Investing in Enterprise Risk Management, published in the Journal of Risk and Insurance (JRI) of the American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA). The award recognizes the JRI paper published 10 years ago that has best stood the test of time. This is third Mehr Award for Phillips. He previously received it in 2008 and 2009.

Glenn Harrison
Harrison and his coauthor, alumna Jia Min Ng (Ph.D. ’17), received the Harris Schlesinger Prize for Research Excellence for their 2018 paper, Welfare Effects of Insurance Contract Non-Performance, published in the Geneva Risk and Insurance Review, which is the academic journal of the Geneva Association and the European Group of Risk and Insurance Economists (EGRIE). The prize is awarded annually for an outstanding article published in the journal within the preceding 10 years.
