ATLANTA — Residency-neutral tuition rates, also known as “e-rates,” will offer savings for students enrolled in the fully online degree and certificate programs offered in Georgia State University’s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, ranked No. 16 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
“These new residency-neutral tuition rates directly advance our mission by expanding access to high-quality, affordable education,” said Dean Thomas J. Vicino. "They will empower more students to drive positive change in their communities and beyond through lifelong learning."
The new pricing positions the university’s online programs as a competitive offering to graduate students nationwide.
The residency-neutral tuition rate of $450 per credit hour will be available for newly enrolled in-state, out-of-state or out-of-country students beginning in the fall 2025 semester. Currently enrolled in-state students with a tuition rate of $408 per credit hour will continue to receive this rate.
The graduate degree programs in the Andrew Young School assigned this new tuition rate include the M.I.S. in Criminal Justice Administration, the Online Master of Social Work and the M.S.W. Advanced Standing. The M.I.S. is a joint program of the departments of Criminal Justice and Criminology and of Public Management and Policy. The online certificate programs assigned the new rate include the Policy Analytics Graduate Certificate and the Public Management and Leadership Graduate Certificate.
“With the introduction of residency-neutral tuition rates, we are making our transformative social work education more accessible than ever," said School of Social Work Director Joon Choi. “More than half of all people with a mental health condition in the U.S. do not receive any treatment. With Georgia and the nation facing a significant shortage of mental health professionals, our online M.S.W. program graduates will be well-equipped to contribute meaningfully to service provision, expanding access to care for all populations.”
The degree programs, their respective concentrations and certificates eligible for the new e-rate represent high-demand careers across multiple specializations, and the flexibility of online learning will make these programs accessible to students worldwide.
“Our online M.I.S. in Criminal Justice Administration provides students around the world with access to a world-class education grounded in evidence-based practices and innovative approaches to criminal justice,” Criminal Justice and Criminology Chair Eric Sevigny said. “With this new e-rate structure, we’re removing financial barriers that might otherwise prevent talented professionals from advancing their careers and making meaningful improvements to criminal justice systems in their communities.”
The new rates will apply to additional Georgia State University graduate degree programs and pathways in health sciences, nursing and public health, in addition to all Georgia State online certificate programs, with diverse programs ranging from actuarial science to instructional design and technology.
