We look forward to the energy, insight and expertise he will bring to our community.”

As dean at Portland State, Rosenstiel has spearheaded initiatives that significantly advanced student success, academic innovation and financial sustainability.
A champion of interdisciplinary collaboration, he forged partnerships across diverse departments and colleges, emphasizing the global relevance of integrating humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

Rosenstiel was also involved in the visioning and completion of the Vernier Science Center, a capital project centering Indigenous perspectives and the voices of students from communities that are not often heard.
Rosenstiel earned a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Northland College in Ashland, Wis. Before joining Portland State University, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
