Distinguished University Professor and Professor of Law Jonathan Todres has been named the Catherine C. Henson Professor of Law. This professorship is endowed through a donation from Georgia State Law graduate Catherine Henson (J.D. ’89).
“Professor Todres embodies the spirit of this endowed professorship as illustrated by his commitment to mentoring students in professional development, substantive legal areas and dedicating much of his time to developing unique curricular programming to support the goal of the College of Law to produce practice-ready lawyers who are leaders in their communities,” said Courtney Anderson, interim dean of Georgia State Law. “Just as Cathy Henson is an integral part of the College of Law's fabric and future, Professor Todres' innovative teaching and internationally renowned scholarship motivates the law school community to keep advocacy for the rights of others at the forefront of our vision.”
Leiden University, Netherlands, also announced Todres’ appointment as the Rotating Honorary Chair in Enforcement of Children’s Rights Department of Child Law and Health Law of Leiden Law School for 2024-2025.
This appointment is designed to promote the study and advocacy of children’s rights by inviting leading experts in the field to contribute their expertise. Todres will teach, supervise students and engage in research collaboration with Leiden colleagues.
“I feel very grateful. I’m honored to be named Catherine C. Henson Professor of Law, especially given how much she has done for the law school community and how much she cares about uplifting others,” said Todres.
“... To be named Rotating Honorary Chair at Leiden is such an honor, as Leiden Law School is a true leader on children’s rights. I look forward to contributing to the Leiden community and to bringing that experience home to share with my students here at Georgia State Law.”
Todres focuses his research and writing on children’s rights law, human rights and health. He is the co-author of “Preventing Child Trafficking: A Public Health Approach.” Todres is also co-editor of “The Oxford Handbook on Children’s Rights Law,” and the forthcoming “Children’s Rights and Child Development: An Integrated Approach,” as well as the newest edition of “Children and the Law: Doctrine, Policy, and Practice.” He currently serves as chair of the board on Children, Youth, and Families for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
