Atlanta, GA – Ensemble ATL is set to dazzle audiences with its 4th season, featuring a dynamic mix of musical celebrations and historical commemorations. Under the visionary leadership of conductor and music director Robert J. Ambrose, the ensemble, which includes musicians from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and top freelance artists, promises a season of captivating performances. Both concerts will be held at Kopleff Recital Hall on Georgia State University's campus and are free to the public. Additional programming details will be announced in the coming months.
September: Honoring Arnold Schönberg's Legacy
On September 9, 2024, at 7 p.m., Ensemble ATL will kick off its season with "Schönberg 150," a concert celebrating Arnold Schönberg's 150th birthday. The program will highlight two of Schönberg's most influential works: Kammersymphonie, Op. 9 and the groundbreaking Pierrot Lunaire, Op.21.
The performance of Pierrot Lunaire will feature renowned soprano Lindsay Kesselman, celebrated for her expressive and powerful vocals. Ambrose expresses his excitement about the collaboration: “We are honored to be part of the world-wide celebration of Arnold Schönberg's 150th birthday. Any opportunity to perform Pierrot Lunaire is special, but partnering with powerhouse Lindsay Kesselman makes it even more so.”

January: Celebrating Entente Cordiale
The season continues on January 21, 2025, at 7 p.m. with "Entente Cordiale: A Cordial Agreement," marking the 120th anniversary of the historic Entente Cordiale alliance between Britain and France. The centerpiece of the program is George Onslow's Nonet, Op. 77. Onslow, whose father was British and mother French, exemplifies the blend of British and French influences that the concert aims to celebrate.
Ambrose adds, “We are equally excited to perform the Onslow Nonet, perhaps the most significant piece written for that combination of instruments, along with several other lesser-known works by outstanding composers, both established and emerging.” The program will further explore this theme with an alternating selection of works by British and French composers, highlighting the rich, intertwined musical traditions of the two nations.
