ATLANTA — Rejuvenation, a feature-length film, created by and starring students and faculty from Georgia State University’s School of Film, Media & Theatre, in collaboration with alumnus and decorated industry veteran Tom Luse (The Walking Dead) and the Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII), is now available for streaming on Tubi and Amazon Video on Demand.
Rejuvenation is an exhilarating thriller, filmed on the GSU campus. Filled with twists and suspense, the movie showcases the professional qualities and fresh perspectives that make the filmmakers of GSU unique. These qualities have earned their efforts international distribution, and we hope that as fellow students, alumni, and members of the community that you will support their efforts.
Visibility on digital platforms is highly linked to early engagement. As such, we are asking you to log on and watch our film as soon as possible as those early clicks can make the difference between a film receiving a broader audience and being buried in a broad catalogue of titles. We want to promote the work of our GSU students and faculty and ensure that partnerships with industry professionals can continue in the future. Demonstrating support for their filmmaking is an excellent way to accomplish these goals and it could create residuals for our students making them paid professional filmmakers before they even graduate.
The film highlights the unique collaboration among students and faculty from the School of Film, Media & Theatre, alongside the School of Music and the Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII), showcasing a blend of academic learning and practical filmmaking experience.
The School of Film, Media & Theatre played a pivotal role in the production of “Rejuvenation.” Professors from the school, including Assistant Professor Susan Reid, Professor of Practice Heath Franklin, Assistant Professor Anastasia Wilson and Senior Academic Professional Mary Emily Deal, provided expert guidance and mentorship throughout the filmmaking process, ensuring students received hands-on experience in various aspects of film production. The film utilized the school’s state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, giving students access to industry-standard tools and environments.
The students, primarily from the film program, were deeply involved in every stage of the film’s creation. Two of our M.F.A. filmmaking students, Shawna Walker and Krew Keth, earned prestigious credits on the project and were heavily involved in developing the visual language of the film. They took on major production roles, from writing and directing to cinematography and editing, allowing them to apply their classroom knowledge to a real-world project. This immersive experience not only enriched their education but also prepared them for professional careers in the film industry.
Set in the titular rehabilitation facility, “Rejuvenation” tells the story of Trinity, a collegiate track star who becomes dependent on powerful painkillers.
According to the announcement, "I am super excited that ‘Rejuvenation’ is finally meeting the rest of the world and grateful that people get to see the work and talent invested by our wonderful cast and crew,” said Imani Okwuosa, an Acting major who plays Trinity in the film.
“Projects such as this exemplify the School of Film, Media & Theatre’s mission to inspire and empower students to excel in arts creation and bring to life our vision to be the model for 21st-century arts education and practice, making the arts visible, vital, and innovative,” said Chester Phillips, dean of the College of the Arts.
The production of “Rejuvenation” also benefited greatly from the support of several companies, each contributing uniquely to the project's success. FOX Entertainment, AMC Networks Inc., Adobe Inc., and Canon USA played pivotal roles in enhancing the film's production quality and reach.
After a successful world premiere at the Rialto Center for the Arts in October 2023, “Rejuvenation” is set to reach a broader audience, allowing international viewers to experience the innovative work of Georgia State students under the guidance of industry veterans. The film’s availability on Amazon/Tubi marks an important step in the School of Film, Media & Theatre’s mission to merge educational initiatives with real-world industry exposure, providing an invaluable platform for emerging filmmakers and creatives.
