ATLANTA — Through the support of a generous donor, the Institute for Biomedical Sciences at Georgia State University has established the Yes, I Can Scholarship, and has awarded seven scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students.
The scholarship recipients are all students in the Biomedical Science and Enterprise bachelor’s program in the Institute for Biomedical Sciences. Each student received a $500 award.
The purpose of the Yes, I Can Scholarship fund is to provide support to students enrolled in the Institute for Biomedical Sciences who have demonstrated the capacity to overcome obstacles. Applicants were required to be in good academic standing and submit a 500-word essay describing obstacles surmounted while pursuing their education in biomedical sciences.
The 2022-23 Yes, I Can Scholarship recipients are Carlos Arreola-Gomez, Kasheena Box, Keairra Brown, Karemma Brown, Alicia Jacobs, Melanie Quintero and Monica Vazifehshenas.
“The intent of this scholarship is to provide deserving Biomedical Science and Enterprise students with additional financial support to help them continue their degree program and not be hindered from realizing their career goals due to hardships encountered while pursuing their education,” said Cynthia Nau Cornelissen, Distinguished University Professor and associate director of the Institute for Biomedical Sciences. “We are proud of the recipients’ achievements and their perseverance through challenging times.”
