In partnership with the School of Film, Media & Theatre, the College of the Arts Office of Educational Outreach is launching a new opportunity for members of the Atlanta acting community to grow their career, take agency over their success as actors, and learn from those who are thriving in their acting careers.
Actors Refresh is a one-day workshop happening October 8th for professional actors, hosted by casting director and Georgia State instructor Bajo Sonubi, to get an inside look at the audition process, enrich professional and social profiles, and discover how to find success.
“Actors seek out classes, workshops and other opportunities for personal and professional development at every stage of their working career,” said Anastasia Wilson, an instructor in the School of Film, Media & Theatre, who played an integral role in connecting working professionals and making this program a reality. “Hosting this workshop at Georgia State allows artists on our faculty to help artists in our community keep themselves in the game after the disruptive isolation of the pandemic.”
The workshop features panelists Alex Collins (Stargirl, Genius, Lovecraft Country, The Accountant), Jennifer Christa Palmer (Naomi, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Black Lightning), and Kurt Yue (Black Widow, Cobra Kai, Dynasty, Ozark) who will participate in interactive breakout sessions designed to give real-world guidance from professionals who are active in the industry.
“As a professional actor, this is exactly the workshop I need to go to,” said Mary Emily Deal, an academic professional in the School of Film, Media & Theatre on the impact of the workshop’s sessions. As one of the driving forces behind the workshop, Deal also touts the strong departmental teamwork that came together to make this workshop happen. Building on the success of the 2018 Motion Capture Workshop, Deal continues to leverage the in-house expertise of Georgia State’s creative industry professionals as supportive resources for the broader Atlanta acting community.
This workshop is open to actors in all stages of their careers. Those who have just begun to seek out auditions or who have years of credits to their portfolio will find something new to consider at Actors Refresh. Focused sessions will feature practical steps for organizing and presenting an Actors Access Profile, finding ways to better set and achieve goals and learning techniques to help master auditions.
Early Bird tickets are available through September 15th, and registration is open until October 3rd. Student discounts are also available for Georgia State students who wish to attend. Visit here for more information: https://thearts.gsu.edu/educationaloutreach-actors-refresh/
