ATLANTA—Georgia State University has named Lee Foster, former assistant director of the Office of the Arts at the Georgia Institute of Technology and operational manager of the Ferst Center for the Arts, executive director of the Rialto Center of the Arts.
Foster has also been managing director of Theatrical Outfit, an organization next to the Rialto, which experienced great transformation under her direction.
She has been an artistic director, managing director and executive director for theaters, a ballet company, a symphony orchestra and other organizations, revitalizing programming and audience attendance.
“I sincerely want to thank the Georgia State search committee and the provost for giving me this incredible opportunity," Foster said. “I’m honored and thrilled to join such a fine university and a fine team, especially as Georgia State is committed to innovation and diversity. I’m really excited about the opportunity to build community within Georgia State and the broader Atlanta community, continuing the commitment to innovation.”
The Rialto, in the heart of Atlanta’s historic Fairlie-Poplar District, is an anchor for the arts in downtown Atlanta and a cultural resource for Georgia State and the Atlanta area. The 833-seat performing arts venue is home to a variety of programming in music, dance and performances by the university’s School of Music, in addition to educational programs.
The center reports to the Office of the Provost.
“Lee’s vast knowledge of the arts, from production and operations to performance and programming, will be an invaluable addition to Georgia State,” said Wendy Hensel, provost and senior vice president of academic affairs at the university, to whom the position reports. “I am confident that under her leadership, the Rialto will play an even more prominent role in the artistic life of our university and region.”
