Earth Week activities at Georgia State University’s Perimeter College April 15-25 will allow the college community – and the public – to explore environmental sustainability and stewardship, among other hot topics.
Biology professor Athertina Steinau will host an Earth Day Expo for students and the community on Georgia State’s Decatur Campus, Tuesday, April 16, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the foyer of Building SC. The event will feature representatives from agencies such as Georgia Commute Options, DeKalb Watershed Management and Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue Effort (AWARE) who will talk about – and in some cases demonstrate – the impact of their organization’s environmental sustainability initiatives.
For Steinau, it's a way to help her environmental science students connect the dots to what they’ve been learning in class and for the public to gain a deeper understanding about these efforts.
“It’s going to be very engaging,” Steinau said of the event. “It’s always a fun time for students and the community.”
Earth Day is an annual event observed internationally on April 22, with Earth Week typically commemorated during the preceding week. The day is designed to acknowledge environmental achievements and encourage participants to protect the earth for future generations.
