Students at Georgia State University’s Perimeter College seeking summer employment can receive assistance from University Career Services. The department will host two events to help students land part-time summer jobs and internships.
The first fair is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, in the Student Center East Ballroom at the Downtown Campus. Another fair takes place Thursday, April 20, at the Dunwoody Campus Student Center. Students will have the opportunity to meet Atlanta area employers and apply for jobs during the events.
Felicia Shanklin, one of three career counselors assigned to Perimeter students, said the job fairs are only one way University Career Services is working to connect students with career and work experiences.
"For me, it's just being part of a student’s growth … and watching them get excited about moving to the next level," Shanklin said.
Aside from the summer job fairs, Perimeter's counselors also have been busy hosting career exploration workshops and open labs that provide students with on-the-spot resume reviews, assistance drafting cover letters and mock interview training. Shanklin stresses the importance of students using the free services, which are available on a daily basis.
"I want to touch at least 100 students per week," she said.
