The state bar of Georgia’s Access to Justice committee recently launched a campaign to increase pro bono volunteerism among attorneys in Georgia. The goal of the campaign, “Due Justice. Do Fifty,” is to not only raise awareness of the importance of pro bono service, but also create an easy way for attorneys to find pro bono opportunities.
The website, duejustice50.org, simplifies the process for matching volunteer lawyers with civil legal aid and pro bono programs. Based on responses to a few questions captured on the online volunteer form, Mike Monahan, director of the Pro Bono Resource Center of the state bar of Georgia, will contact an appropriate service provider. The pro bono coordinator for that provider will then follow up with the interested attorney within a few days.
Law students and other legal support professionals can use the site, as well, to find volunteer opportunities.
