DECATUR, Ga.—A gift from State Farm of 25 laptops and money for much-needed scanning equipment may mean the difference between completing a course project on time or being forced to wait until a computer or scanning equipment becomes available for students at the Decatur Campus of Georgia State University’s Perimeter College.
Some students on the campus do not have computers, and their phone is the only electronic device they own, said Tamika Barnes, director of Georgia State's Perimeter library services.
A group of State Farm agents from the metro Atlanta region came to the Decatur Campus library recently to present the laptops and a check for $4,000 to purchase computer scanners.
“This generous gift allows us to expand our laptop lending program, which is a popular service for those students who may not otherwise have access or exposure to using a laptop,” Barnes said.
Barnes said students also have been requesting scanning capabilities in the Decatur Campus library.
Access to scanners is an ongoing need "we will finally be able to fulfill after State Farm's monetary donation,” she said.
“State Farm is proud of its ongoing relationship with Georgia State University Perimeter College to support student success,” said State Farm Area Vice President Kristyn Cook-Turner. “The donation of the laptops and scanners to the Decatur Campus is one of many ways State Farm is helping to make life go right by providing needed resources to support students in their academic endeavors.”
