Library Changes by Scott Pieper, Guest Columnist
Librarians and staff at the campus libraries serving Perimeter College students are working diligently with our Atlanta campus colleagues to consolidate major library services by fall semester. We intend to operate as one University Library with six campus locations (plus online).
What does that mean for Perimeter College faculty and staff? Most importantly, the excellent services that you depend on will continue: research assistance, library instruction, reserves, research guides, etc. Overall, we see tremendous opportunities for Perimeter College as we expand access to the resources of a major research library.
These are the broad areas we are working on:
* Library Catalog: We now have one GSU Library catalog for all campuses.
* Databases: Databases available to Perimeter College (i.e. Opposing Viewpoints, Bloom’s Literature, SWANK) have been added to Georgia State’s collection of databases. (The One Click Digital Audiobook database was not renewed.)
* Library website: By fall semester, the libraries will be using downtown’s homepage and site architecture.
* Circulation policies: We are now following Georgia State’s circulation policies for most materials and equipment. See more details.
* Collection Development: Perimeter College librarians still will be involved in selecting materials for the campus libraries serving Perimeter College students. We, of course, covet input from faculty and staff.
* Library Instruction: We will have a new request form for Perimeter College faculty to use for fall.
In mid-August, many links to electronic resources will change because of the consolidation. Please check links to articles, films, images and books in your iCollege classes prior to fall semester. Let us know if you need help fixing the broken links.
Please be patient with us as we address challenges and adjust to new procedures. We will try our best to communicate changes to you. If you are having trouble finding a resource or a service, please let us know. We are here to support you!
