Bio
Taylor Shelton is a geographer broadly interested in using maps and data in order to understand urban social, spatial and environmental inequalities. His research examines the variety of ways that housing, land and property ownership shapes contemporary inequality. His recent research has particularly focused on the incursion of large corporate landlords and institutional investors into the single-family rental market, both here in Atlanta and across the United States. This work has shown, for example, how large corporate landlords employ networks of interlocking LLCs in order to insulate themselves from public and regulatory scrutiny, as well as how different firms have adopted distinct spatial strategies for targeting property acquisitions in order to minimize inter-firm competition and maximize profitability.
