ATLANTA—The Georgia State University College of the Arts Office of Educational Outreach is pleased to announce Artistic Director Dr. JJ Hudson, Musical Director Rolando Salazar, and Artist-In-Residence Talise Trevigne as the artist faculty for the 2023 Harrower Summer Opera Workshop. The Harrower Summer Opera Workshop Artistic Faculty will bring artistry, expertise and world-renowned acclaim to the 38th season of the Harrower Summer Opera Workshop, held each summer in Atlanta.
“I am thrilled that we have such a talented team continuing Peter and Irene Harrower’s legacy of educating the next generation of opera performers,” said Dean Wade Weast of the College of the Arts. “Dr. Hudson is an extraordinary artist-faculty member, and his work with the Georgia State opera program has been noteworthy. We are excited to see the future of the workshop under Dr. Hudson’s artistic direction.”
The Georgia State University Harrower Summer Opera Workshop is an intensive three-week summer workshop held in the heart of Atlanta. The workshop began nearly 40 years ago as the brainchild of Peter and Irene Harrower. As a nationally recognized opera program, the Harrower Summer Opera Workshop continues to offer the best training for aspiring opera performers and directors.
“The Harrower Summer Opera Workshop is such a wonderful program that truly inspires and teaches the students to be well-rounded vocal artists and opera performers. I am honored to be named Harrower’s Artistic Director and am humbled to lead such a long-standing program while working alongside Rolando Salazar as Musical Director and the phenomenally talented Talise Trevigone,” said Dr. Hudson. Dr. Hudson is currently the Valerie Adams Professor of Practice in Opera and Director of the Georgia State Opera Theater at Georgia State University.
In collaboration with Dr. Hudson, Rolando Salazar joins the 2023 Season of Harrower Artist Faculty as the program’s Musical Director. As Chorus Master for the Atlanta Opera, Mr. Salazar has worked with some of the best in the opera business. He recently returned to the podium to conduct performances of Pagliacci for the Atlanta Opera’s Molly Blank Big Tent Series and worked with the Atlanta Concert Opera for performances of Handel’s Messiah with the Atlanta Concert Opera.
Talise Trevigne, American Soprano, is internationally known for her performances with the City of Birmingham’s Symphony Orchestra in England, the Melbourne International Festival, and the Israeli Opera. Nationally, she has performed with the Cincinnati Opera, Boston Lyric Opera and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Ms. Trevigne is a GRAMMY-nominated artist, but is perhaps best known for her role in Porgy and Bess and as the Company Principal Artist for the 2020-2021 Season at the Atlanta Opera.
Hosted by Georgia State University, the workshop prepares students for careers as professional singers by culminating their summer experience into final performances of a scenes program and two fully staged and produced operas.
