Naomi Jessup has been appointed the College of Education & Human Development’s assistant dean for educator preparation and accreditation, effective July 1.
Her appointment comes as Carla Tanguay, current assistant dean, prepares to retire from Georgia State University on June 30.
Jessup has been a member of the college since 2018 and currently serves as an associate professor of mathematics education. She brings extensive experience across educator preparation, program administration and accreditation, along with a deep commitment to the college’s mission.
Her work in educator preparation has included serving as the sole instructor for the Bachelor of Science in Education mathematics methods courses, where she has played a central role in preparing future elementary teachers. Her impact is reflected in strong candidate outcomes, including consistently high pass rates on the mathematics component of the Educative Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) and successful placement of teacher candidates in urban classrooms.
Jessup has also contributed to program development and leadership at the college and system levels. She served on the University System of Georgia’s Teacher Education Program Redesign team and currently serves as program coordinator for the K-5 Mathematics Endorsement within the M.Ed. in Elementary Education program. These roles have provided her with valuable experience in program implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement.
Her background in accreditation began during her doctoral studies, where she worked on Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges review efforts, contributing to reporting, documentation and site visit coordination. Since joining Georgia State, she has continued to engage in work that supports program quality and alignment with state and national expectations.
Prior to her work in higher education, Jessup served as a district-level administrator, leading instructional coaching efforts in an urban school system. She currently serves on the Georgia Department of Education’s K-5 Mathematics Division and has built strong partnerships with state agencies, including the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
“Dr. Jessup’s experience, leadership and collaborative approach will be instrumental as we continue to strengthen our educator preparation programs and uphold excellence in accreditation,” said Paul Alberto, CEHD dean.
