ATLANTA—Georgia State University’s Alonzo A. Crim Center for Urban Educational Excellence will host its 2025 Sources of Urban Educational Excellence Conference on Nov. 7-8, 2025, in Georgia State’s College of Law (85 Park Place NE, Atlanta).
Joycelyn Wilson, assistant professor in Georgia Tech’s Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, will serve as the keynote speaker for the conference, which will focus on the theme, “Seeing Ourselves in the Algorithmic Future: Education, Workforce and Beyond.”
The Crim Center invites educators, researchers, technologists, artists and community leaders to explore the past, present and possible futures of our rapidly digitizing world. As technology reshapes our classrooms and communities, this event asks, “Who do we see – and not see – in the algorithmic future?” The theme encourages conference attendees to think deeply and creatively about how technology shapes education, not only in terms of tools and platforms, but in the values, assumptions and aspirations they carry.
“The 2025 Sources Conference is bringing together brilliant minds – including our keynote speaker, Dr. Joycelyn Wilson – to explore both the promise and the challenges of technology and AI in education,” said Lawanda Cummings, director of the Crim Center. “Together, we can thoughtfully build the future of urban educational excellence as a community of believers.”
The late Asa Hilliard, who served as the Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Urban Education, created the Sources Conference in 2005 to give Georgia State students a place to present their work and learn best practices for enhancing the urban student’s experience. Since then, it has grown to include faculty members, educators, community members and others to share their innovative ideas, scholarship and lessons learned from working in urban schools and communities.
The conference is free to attend, and breakfast and lunch will be provided on both days. To RSVP, visit https://bit.ly/Sources2025RSVP.
