ATLANTA—The Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions has launched a new degree program, the Graduate Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), for students seeking to become registered dietitians. The program is fully online and is eligible for Georgia State’s residency neutral tuition of $450 per credit hour.
To be eligible to take the credentialling exam to become a registered dietitian, students must earn a “verification statement” confirming successful completion of all requirements of an accredited nutrition and dietetics education program; complete a dietetic internship; and hold a master’s degree.
This new program offers students a master’s degree with coursework 100 percent online and a verification statement. Students will secure their own internship and can do so after graduation. The internship can be in any U.S. state, making this degree program ideal for students who live anywhere in the country.
“This distinctive program will especially appeal to students looking for a high-quality degree program to become a registered dietitian that offers the convenience of online classes,” said Desiree Wanders, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Nutrition. “This program is available to any student in the United States, and Georgia State’s rate for this online program makes this degree an exceptional value for qualified students seeking to become a registered dietitian.”
This program is the Lewis College’s latest effort to help meet the demand of the healthcare workforce by leveraging the college’s resources and faculty expertise.
The Graduate DPD is a candidacy program under the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. Candidacy does not affect students’ ability to earn a verification statement from GSU.
For students seeking an in-person degree program, the Lewis College also offers the Master of Science in Nutrition Coordinated Program. This program offers the convenience of having an internship arranged by the Department of Nutrition and can be completed full- or part-time. One popular internship location is Grady Memorial Hospital, which offers a vigorous learning experience at a busy, urban hospital in downtown Atlanta.
