ATLANTA — More than two dozen Georgia State University students celebrated Women’s History Month with conversation and creativity at “Inspire & Create” on March 31. This annual event, hosted by WomenLead and University Career Services, invites Georgia State alumni to return to campus to share their leadership stories, career insights, and advice with students.
Students were treated to an inspirational conversation featuring four women representing diverse career paths. These Georgia State alumni also represented the nearly 2,000 students who have completed WomenLead, a university-wide 3-credit elective course anchored by its mission of advancing women’s leadership in the world by empowering students to aspire to and achieve leadership roles.
The panelists:
- Samantha Bierworth (B.A. ’18), founder, Golden Age Audio LLC
- Mary Hedgeman (B.B.A.), senior human resources and organizational development leader, Urban League of Greater Atlanta
- Amy Soro (B.A. ’18, M.A. ’21), litigation paralegal, Fellows LaBriola LLP
- Samantha Wicker (B.S. ’20), assistant solicitor general, DeKalb County
Davia Rose Lassiter, WomenLead faculty and staff member, moderated the discussion. Topics included the success and challenges of entrepreneurship, working in the legal field, leading beyond geographical borders, and navigating company culture. Students also asked questions about work and parenthood, graduate school, and interviewing.
Event attendees received a paint kit of a historic woman to take with them. This year’s kits featured the likes of trailblazing women such as former First Lady Michelle Obama, actress Anna May Wong, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, artist Frida Kahlo, and activist Marsha P. Johnson.
