Tell me a bit about yourself and why you chose Georgia State.
I’m from Alpharetta, Ga., and I am a sophomore majoring in marketing with a minor in psychology.
I chose Georgia State because I like to travel and explore cities. I like the bustle of the city and Georgia State hit that mark, with the Atlanta Campus being in the heart of the city. There are so many things to do and places to see.
How did you decide to major in marketing?
In high school, I ran the social media accounts for clubs I was a member of. I liked seeing how what I posted affected people and whether that was a factor in their decision to come to the events or not.
Why do you think it’s relevant to study marketing and psychology at the same time?
It shows you the psychology behind what you can do to make people buy or consume your product — such as what motivates, intrigues and interests them. Buyer behavior is important in marketing.
What organizations are you involved with on campus?
I’m involved in Campus Girls Lead, a female organization that is a safe space to offer leadership and where we all hang out. I am their marketing coordinator as well.
I’m also a part of Delta Zeta sorority and I am the marketing and public relations coordinator.
What are some of your biggest accomplishments?
Getting on the President’s List last semester. I worked hard and stayed focused. I wasn’t used to doing that in high school but now that I’m in college, I know it is important for me to try my best to succeed.
What are some valuable lessons you’ve learned while in college?
You’re in control of how your college experience goes. It’s not up to somebody else. There’s not going to be anyone like your parents telling you to finish your homework on time or to go to sleep early. College is a balance, and if you use your time wisely, you will have a good time and succeed.
What are some goals you hope to accomplish?
I want to get an internship at a small business so I can gain hands-on business experience and apply that to my long-term goal of working in marketing for a film studio.
My dream job would be at Lionsgate or Warner Bros.
Additionally, I want to work for a well-established company in product marketing and travel more. I think it’s important to see the world while you’re still young and post-graduation would be the perfect time.
In what way do you hope to impact the world?
I want to help marginalized groups get their voices heard through marketing. I think, especially in the film industry, there are so many creative minds that don’t have the resources to get their projects out and I want to be the reason they do.
What advice do you have for other GSU students?
There are a lot of resources that you won’t know about at first, but you will eventually find them.
Join clubs and get involved. University Career Services is also an excellent resource for helping you find jobs and careers.
