ATLANTA — Lusi Yang, a scholar specializing in crowd-based innovation and digital entrepreneurship at Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business, has received the Association for Information Systems (AIS) 2024 Early Career Award. First presented in 2015, the award recognizes individuals in the early stages of their careers who have already made outstanding research, teaching, and/or service contributions to the field of information systems.
Yang, an assistant professor with Georgia State’s Department of Computer Information Systems, more than exceeds the criteria.
Research. Yang’s research on crowd-based innovation, digital entrepreneurship, and open innovation platforms that provide new approaches to acquiring services, ideas and funding has significantly advanced knowledge about how digital platforms make a difference in entrepreneurship, marketing, and economics.
Teaching. Her teaching contributions have included redesigning Georgia State’s master’s level unstructured data management course, including incorporating text analysis using Python and NoSQL databases and continuously updating the coursework by integrating AI advances such as natural language processing, image processing, and non-relational databases.
Service. Yang has repeatedly demonstrated her commitment to the information systems community through her contributions to conferences and as a reviewer for journals including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and the Journal for the Association for Information Systems, as well as for premier journals in other disciplines, including Management Science and the Journal of Business Venturing.
“Given all that she has achieved already, it’s easy to forget that Lusi Yang is early in her career,” said Richard Phillips, dean of the Robinson College of Business. “Her global standing among her information systems colleagues, as well as among scholars in strategy, organizational behavior, and operations management, indicate the tremendous impact she will have in coming years.”
Yang holds a doctorate in information systems and analytics from the National University of Singapore. She joined Georgia State in 2022.
