ATLANTA — Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business will introduce an innovative master’s program in fall 2025 to address the evolving demands of the accounting industry. The new Master of Interdisciplinary Studies (MIS) in Data Science and Accounting combines a strong accounting foundation with advanced data science and AI skills, preparing graduates to excel in a profession undergoing rapid technological transformation.
“The accounting profession is at a critical juncture, undergoing dramatic changes driven by technological innovation, talent shortages, and the need for succession planning,” said Peter Demerjian, director of the School of Accountancy at Robinson. “These changes create significant opportunities for graduates who possess technical accounting expertise alongside data science and AI skills. This program is tailored to prepare students for impactful careers in this new era of accounting."
The MIS in Data Science and Accounting was developed in consultation with more than 80 external stakeholders, including recruiters, partners, and senior leaders in accounting and related industries. Their insights underscored the growing importance of professionals who can bridge the gap between technical accounting and emerging AI technologies. As AI becomes central to accounting workflows, firms increasingly seek talent capable of leveraging data analytics to enhance decision-making, optimize processes, and lead organizational innovation.
