On Friday, October 11th, 2024, In Good Company (IGC) and HEI Hotels and Resorts joined forces to host a unique recruitment event in honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The event at The Whitley, a luxury collection hotel in Atlanta Buckhead, was a testament to the strong partnership between the two entities. It aimed to provide students and alums from Georgia's Inclusive Postsecondary Education (IPSE) programs with an immersive experience within the hospitality industry.
In Good Company (IGC) helps businesses meet staffing needs by connecting them with well-prepared, long-term job seekers. IGC also assists employers in effectively integrating candidates with disabilities by providing the support necessary to foster a thriving, inclusive workplace where employees of all abilities can excel.
The IGC Network Career Day presented a unique opportunity for attendees to gain insights from a panel of seasoned hospitality professionals, offering a glimpse into various career paths. The exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of The Whitley, a five-star hotel, provided a deeper understanding of hotel operations. The chance to network directly with hiring managers from HEI's portfolio of properties was a valuable experience. Six esteemed hotel employers from the Atlanta area, including The Hotel Avalon, Hilton Atlanta Airport, Crowne Plaza Midtown, Embassy Suites Atlantic Station, The Whitley, and the Kimpton Shane Hotel, were present to share their invaluable insights with our attendees.
Thirty students and alumni from Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Kennesaw State University attended the event. All the attendees were from IPSE programs, including GSU IDEAL, GT Excel, and KSU Academy for Inclusive Learning.
"I had the opportunity to talk to some of the hotel employers regarding job opportunities, such as front desk positions. I learned alot about the hospitality industry and enjoyed touring the Whitley Hotel," said Dev Fuller, IDEAL program student.
"The result was a beautiful and eye-opening coming together of two groups of people we hold dear to our hearts at IGC," said Sarah Gabriel, IGC founder. "We have already heard of some interviews hitting the books due to this event, and we look forward to seeing careers blossom from there."
Madison Cathey, a marketing master’s student and marketing GRA for the IDEAL program, was honored to help curate the job fair alongside In Good Company. As a hospitality management graduate from Georgia Southern University, she was ecstatic to work with IGC and HEI Hotels and Resorts, which aligned with her career aspirations in marketing within the hospitality industry.
Madison's role involved registering and informing our students and alums about the job fair, creating question cards and Q&As to promote communication between attendees and employers, and facilitating the networking event to maximize engagement.
"Overall, it was a fantastic experience working with In Good Company and HEI Hotels and Resorts," said Madison. "It was a privilege to witness firsthand the opportunities created for students and alums in the hospitality field."
