Tiffany Parker began her academic career as a nursing student at Georgia State University.
But when she realized that being a nurse wasn’t the right path for her, Parker started looking for other options at the university and decided sport administration was a better fit.
“During my first couple of semesters at Georgia State, I attended several football and basketball games and absolutely loved the environment,” she said. “Being able to see the culture and values of the work behind athletics helped me decide this career path was for me.”
As a sport administration student, Parker’s most memorable experience was attending a speed networking and mentoring event hosted by Women in Sports and Events, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting women working in sport business.
“I was able to meet my mentor there and gain valuable knowledge about the industry,” she said. “They were there to answer hard questions. It became a safe space for me to talk about my concerns and how I feel about entering sport business.”
Parker was recognized for her academic achievements at the College of Education & Human Development’s annual Honors Day Ceremony on April 16.
She is the 2024 recipient of the Outstanding Sport Administration Undergraduate Student Award, which recognizes a student who best exemplifies the ideals of the sport administration program and shows exceptional promise as an emerging leader in the sport business industry.
“I was completely shocked when I found out I was selected to receive this award,” she said. “I am extremely happy and honored to receive it and to represent the sport administration program at Georgia State University.”
