Interview by Jordan Ferguson
Can you share a bit about your Georgia State journey?
I’m a senior political science major with a pre-law concentration and a minor in criminal justice. I have been attending Georgia State since I was 16! I participated in the dual-enrollment program to get a taste of campus life before becoming a full-time student. I knew I valued diversity and being in a space where I could grow, and I knew the Georgia State community would support me in doing so.
What are your postgrad plans?
I’m attending law school in the fall at the University of Georgia. I want to become an attorney and, eventually, a federal judge. Georgia State has been home for so long that I know I’ll carry with me all the important ideas, notions and mantras I learned here. I'm really excited for that.
How have you been involved with on-campus organizations?
In my first year here, I joined the Student Government Association (SGA) and served on the Campus Senate. My primary goal was to connect students, faculty and staff with university resources. My sophomore year, I was appointed executive vice president of the SGA. I also served as president of the Black Sophomore Society. In that organization, I focused on fostering community, not just among Black sophomores but among the entire sophomore class. And I’ve done some work around voter advocacy, helping students gain access to the polls and understand where they can vote if they aren’t Fulton County residents.
How has Georgia State prepared you for law school and the rest of your life?
I think about how I can accomplish anything. Everyone always says that the world is your oyster; Georgia State has shown me what that means. Georgia State has really equipped me with the skills to be proactive and get things done in the most efficient way.
If you had to describe your time at Georgia State in one word, what would it be and why?
I would say “unforgettable.” I'll never forget the community I’ve gained and the number of people who have supported me throughout college. Whether it's administration, faculty, staff or my friends, I've always felt extremely supported. It’s shown me that passion can take you a long way, but having a community around you can help fuel that passion.
