Interview by Jordan Ferguson
Tell us about yourself and how you chose Georgia State.
I’ve been entertaining my whole life, whether that’s making music, acting or writing, and that’s just been my whole career in school. Being an Atlanta native, I felt like Georgia State was a natural decision. I also knew other people going to the university, and I thought it would help me transition better to a new kind of atmosphere.
Tell us about some of the productions and organizations you’ve participated in at Georgia State.
I’ve been networking in many different facets here at Georgia State. I was recently in the play “Bumni & Babajide Much Ado in Lagos” that the Atlanta City Theatre [Georgia State’s resident theatre company] put on. And I was just cast to be a part of the play “Everybody.” It runs Feb. 20-25 in Dahlberg Hall.
I’m also a creative team member and model for Infinite Appeal.
What is your ultimate goal after graduation?
I don’t want to say that I have an ultimate goal or ultimate purpose in life, but I’ll say that I have checkpoints along the way that I want to complete. I want to have my production company up and running. I want to create films from my work and writing, and allow others to showcase their talents. Another checkpoint in life would be to create a record label for the unsung artists in the world.
How is Georgia State helping you prepare for your future in acting?
Georgia State has opened up the doors to many people that I can network with, whether it’s my professors or my classmates. I feel like each person adds some flair or has some influence on how I already create things. I can apply what I’ve learned in class to a film, and I now know different actors I can call on, or what person to call for lighting, you know? So, I feel like it’s just opened the door to so many different resources that will help me with my ventures.
If you could describe your time at Georgia State in one word, what would that word be and why?
I’d say eventful, and that’s because every semester has been its own movie. I mean, I’m a different person from my first year. I wouldn’t even recognize me. Each semester had its own story arc.
What advice would you give people looking at Georgia State and starting their college journey?
I would say if you like to party and have fun, that’s cool, but make sure you at least spend some time on your work, because if you are not doing that, and you just stay outside hanging out, I promise you, it’s going to sneak up on you. Try to do your work and find a balance.
